How to Quickly Type Special Characters from Keyboard
Whether you are using a physical keyboard or a touch screen, most characters you can type do not appear on your keyboard. Here’s how you can quickly type special characters from Keyboard into your computer.
You could always do an online search to find the symbol and also copy-paste it into the software you are using. Finding special characters is slow, but it works to insert the occasional dark symbol quickly.
Type Special Characters from Keyboard using ALT Keys combination
Special characters can be inserted quickly on Windows using Alt key codes. Those require a separate numeric keypad on the right side of your keyboard so that most laptops won’t be working. These will only function on desktop PCs if you have that pad number on the right-hand side of your Enter key.
Make sure the “Num Lock” is on for using Alt key codes — you may need to tap the Num Lock key to turn it on. Next, tap and hold the Alt key. Click the correct numbers on the right side of your keyboard using the number pad, and then release the Alt key.
To type a special character using an Alt keyboard sequence:
Ensure that the Num Lock key has been pressed, to activate the numeric key section of the keyboard.
Press the Alt key, and hold it down.
While the Alt key is pressed, type the sequence of numbers (on the numeric keypad) from the Alt code in the above table.
Release the Alt key, and the character will appear.
